Initial Solo Singing Rehearsal

https://youtu.be/7y5GYGlyAAw To start off the rehearsal, the director set us off to choose a couple solos from a musical for us to choose and perform in the final show. I went through all my favourite musicals and chose two songs; On My Own from Les Misérables and The Winner Takes It All from Mamma Mia. I decided to go for On my own as I felt it was more of a challenge for me to learn. To start off I performed a warm up. I have a singing teacher so I performed warm ups that are specifically tailored to help my voice best warm up. One of the warm ups were singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, while going up the scale. Another was singing the melody of the song I'm about to sing, but singing it with my lips together and pushing air through them. These warm ups, along with others, are very important to perform as it ensures I don't damage my voice, along with allowing me to reach higher notes in songs. Initial Workshop with Choreographer - Matilda: Revolting Children

Within the workshop with the choreographer I focussed on picking up and learning the start of the routine. To begin with we sat around the board and got given two dances we could pick, and we chose revolting children as we thought we could correctly portray children in a fun and revolting attitude. One thing I took from the start of the lesson was that dancing in musical theatre requires a lot more acting, as you tend to more obviously be putting on a story with each of the dances. Following on from deciding what dance we were going to do, we performed a warm up. This included moving round the space, to get the blood pumping in our body's along with stretching out our body, which loosened up our muscles, to insure we didn't strain anything/injure ourselves while we were dancing. As the lesson developed we started to make a start on the routine. We firstly looked at the the original theatre version of Revolting Children and took ideas from that, while also listening to ideas
