Initial Workshop with Choreographer - Matilda: Revolting Children

Within the workshop with the choreographer I focussed on picking up and learning the start of the routine. To begin with we sat around the board and got given two dances we could pick, and we chose revolting children as we thought we could correctly portray children in a fun and revolting attitude. One thing I took from the start of the lesson was that dancing in musical theatre requires a lot more acting, as you tend to more obviously be putting on a story with each of the dances.

Following on from deciding what dance we were going to do, we performed a warm up. This included moving round the space, to get the blood pumping in our body's along with stretching out our body, which loosened up our muscles, to insure we didn't strain anything/injure ourselves while we were dancing. As the lesson developed we started to make a start on the routine. We firstly looked at the the original theatre version of Revolting Children and took ideas from that, while also listening to ideas from the choreographer. One thing to improve on is our timing. For example, at the begin of the piece all our heads are out of time. You can see this in the video at 24 seconds. This then intern made the start of the dance look messy and unrehearsed. The goal I have for the next rehearsal is to try and get more of the dance completed and also memorise the counts in the song, so I know at what time specific moves come in.
